CD Projekt Red has just released a new trailer for the highly anticipated The Witcher 4, featuring Ciri as its protagonist. The young woman is a familiar face among The Witcher fans since she has always been an important supporting character. While her taking the mantel of Geralt isn’t that surprising, the trailer has raised some pressing questions.
With the release of this new trailer, the canonical ending for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been decided. Instead of returning to her blood father, Ciri in The Witcher 4 has decided to follow in Geralt’s footsteps. The trailer shows her hunting a powerful monster who has been demanding sacrifices from a nearby village.
Besides showing her prowess to kill monsters, the trailer sparks various questions among fans. While it’s not strange for Ciri to become a monster hunter, the woman seems to have gone through the Witcher Trials, which grant her iconic cat eyes and other abilities.
She should’ve received the trials during her childhood, but she showed no sign of Witcher mutation during The Witcher 3. This begs the question of how she could gain those Witcher powers when she didn’t use them at all in the previous game.

While Ciri is able to kill the monster in the trailer, she only uses Witcher signs and swords. You can see her casting the Quen sign, but she also uses the long chains on her arms to immobilize the creature and then uses Igni to burn it.
The Witcher 4 trailer is certainly impressive and cool, but it’s surprising that Ciri doesn’t utilize her Elder Blood magic at all. In the previous game, you can see her teleporting all around the area, killing monsters. Yet she doesn’t do that in the video and only resorts to using Witcher signs.
These questions are important to answer, and hopefully, the game will elaborate more as we learn about Ciri’s journey after defeating The Wild Hunt. After all, the previous saga focuses so much on Ciri having the Elder Blood magic, and the absence of it in this trailer raises great curiosity.
