Lately, things have been pretty wild all around the world when it comes to the weather. Places that don’t typically experience certain types of weather are getting their first taste, and for residents of those places, it’s pretty scary. Yesterday, a city about 70 miles South of San Francisco experienced their first ever tornado warning, and along with it, a devastating twister that left quite a few people harmed and tons of property damaged. However, in quite a few TikTok videos, the occurrence is being compared to something that happened in a movie. I don’t know about you, but our weather being compared to that in The Day After Tomorrow isn’t the most promising.
@abc7chicago An apparent tornado touched down in a small Northern California city Saturday, flipping cars, causing significant damage and sending several people to the hospital. The National Weather Service said the apparent tornado touched down at about 1:40 p.m. local time in Scotts Valley, about 30 miles south of San Jose. Several people were taken to the hospital with injuries, but there are no reported deaths, according to a press release from the Scotts Valley Police Department. “Emergency medical teams are prioritizing those most in need of care, and we continue to monitor the situation closely,” police said in the news release. The tornado caused “significant damage” in several areas, police said. Photos shared by police on social media showed multiple cars turned on their sides along the roadway and in a shopping center parking lot. #tornado ♬ original sound – abc7chicago – abc7chicago
In one TikTok video by @abc7chicago, a woman speaks on her experience with hearing the tornado, saying “It was the scariest sound I’ve ever heard.” While some of the country may be pretty accustomed to this weather, they know others aren’t and they’ve dropped into the comments to leave their thoughts: “As a midwesterner, I feel for the ppl. It’s something that they never see. I’m sure it was scary. There are no warning systems there. Even ours here are not always accurate.”
@dailymail San Francisco was hit with its first-ever tornado warning after a devastating storm tore through northern California, flipping cars and leaving multiple people injured. Around one million people woke up to an alert urging them to ‘take shelter’ early Saturday, after the warning was extended into parts of neighboring San Mateo County. Forecasters have since confirmed that a tornado ripped through Scotts Valley, located an hour and a half south of San Francisco. 🎥 @arthur_sot75923 #news #tornado #california #weather #warning ♬ original sound – Daily Mail
On some other videos, however, the comments aren’t so kind to those in California. One TikTok user comments, “average windy day in Oklahoma,” while others are saying things like “Welcome to the Midwest,” and “You’ll be aight it’s js a tornado.” Others are even joking about the tornado being a Christmas gift from Oklahoma to California, and others altogether are sitting back and watching the Oklahoma vs. California “beef” in the comments.

What really got me though, is the amount of comments referencing The Day After Tomorrow. “Remember “The Day After Tomorrow”? Yea right before stuff went crazy, LA got their first ever tornado warning,” said one user. The thought’s pretty wild, considering how strange it is for these weather patterns to be happening in the first place. Above all, though, I hope everyone that was affected by the tornado is doing okay.
