Keanu Reeves has had a long and successful run as one of the most recognizable (and coolest) action stars in Hollywood. However, the myth that he’s an ageless vampire is starting to appear flimsy because the John Wick actor has admitted that old age is taking its creeping up on him. While Keanu Reeves still has the heart for a hypothetical John Wick 5, his knees will likely give out from anything other than the Ballerina spinoff.
Earlier in December, Keanu Reeves spoke as a guest on CBS Mornings to promote his latest film, Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Of course, it was only inevitable for the curious news crew to ask whether Keanu would be keen on coming back for John Wick 5. The John Wick star then replied with the following:
“You can never say never. My knees right now are saying ‘I can’t do another John Wick’. So my heart does but I don’t know if my knees can do it,” as Keanu Reeves explained on CBS.
Perhaps that Paris stairway action scene in John Wick 4 took its toll.
Despite being partial to another John Wick movie, Keanu Reeves is notably a part of the upcoming spinoff, Ballerina, which stars Ana de Armas as a female assassin in the John Wick lore. Keanu Reeves has been spotted in the trailer and will likely have a short or small cameo role (and perhaps even with a bit of action).
Ballerina is finished with its filming and will be released in theaters in June 2025. That very well means Keanu Reeves has done the scenes though it’s still not clear how much action he’ll be contributing to the Ana de Armas movie.
Meanwhile, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is an exception because Keanu mostly just provides the voice and personality for the edgy Shadow the Hedgehog.
Reeves Performed His Own Stunts
As for why Keanu Reeves might have been hesitant about doing another John Wick movie, the man is quite famous for performing his own stunts. In fact, in the first John Wick movie, Reeves performed over 90 percent of his own stunts and action choreography– including fight sequences.
Such sincerity to the audience has lent much to Keanu Reeves’ action star status and John Wick‘s production value. Reeves might also want to give the same level of commitment to John Wick 5 if ever, and delegating some of the stunts to stuntment due to his old age is probably not the kind of passion he wants to bring to fans.

After all, Keanu Reeves just turned 60 a few months ago. Still, Keanu Reeves’ age and old knees also open up plenty of opportunities for the “Old Man Wick” treatment, just like what 20th Century Fox did with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the Logan movie.
