Nintendo Switch 2 Leaker Claims It Features Magnetic Controllers & Drift-Resistant Joysticks

Rumors of Nintendo Switch 2‘s release in 2025 have been spreading for months. However, a leaker on Reddit named “NextHandheld” has spoken with The Verge and divulged more information about this highly anticipated console. The leaker claimed they had seen and touched the final version of Nintendo Switch 2, which featured magnetic controllers and drift-resistant joysticks. NextHandheld also said that their source mentioned the console might be announced as early as next January.

The Nintendo Switch 2 leaker said that the new dock didn’t have a new port, so it will feature two USB-A, one USB-C, one HDMI, and one ethernet. NextHandheld also showed photos to The Verge. One of them being the joystick rail region. Unlike the previous leaks, it seems the upcoming console will feature no rails and only a long hollow area with a 13-pin connector that connects to the Joy-Con.

The leaker claimed that there was a physical magnetic click when you attached a Joy-Con. There is also a large button on the controller that allows you to release the magnet and detach the Joy-Con.

NextHandheld also claimed the controllers will feature magnetic Hall effect joysticks. Unlike regular potentiometer joysticks, this new type of controller allows contactless operation via a Hall effect sensor. This reduces the chance of your joysticks drifting. It’s basically an upgrade to the usual joysticks that many controllers use.

The Switch 2 leaker also showed the Verge a photo of the console stand. Instead of the tiny rubbery kickstand, the upcoming console will use a sturdy U-shaped rail. According to the Verge, the new stand will be much larger than the images of U-shaped kickstands floating on the internet. Nintendo Switch 2’s dock is rated 60W, while the console itself is 45W. This is unlike the original Switch, which has a 39W charger but usually only draws around 18W.

Besides talking with The Verge, NextHandheld has also spoken with another Redditor, and you can read their AMA on the site. This interview contains a lot more interesting tidbits. For example, Switch 2 has the same weight as Switch OLED, the console will have a grey color on the whole body, and the Joy-Con’s shape remains flat like the original.
