Marvel vs Capcom Infinite & Beyond Mod Brings Visual Overhaul and Bonus Game Mode to the Flawed Fighting Gem: ‘Such a Perfect Timing’

The Marvel vs Capcom Infinite & Beyond mod has transformed the biggest missed opportunity of 2017 into something fans have finally longed for. Featuring overhauled character models, visual style, and even gameplay, any fans of the Avengers and Street Fighter would not want to miss this passion project. The mod will be released on December 20th via MVCIB.com and works exclusively on the PC Steam version of Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.

Released to a lukewarm reception, the original Marvel vs Capcom Infinite was heavily criticized for its odd mix of realistic and cartoonish art styles. While there are fewer complaints about the gameplay, it didn’t come without flaws. There are also glitches on standard bread-and-butter combos such as the easily replicable ‘floating Captain America’ bug.

Marvel vs Capcom Infinite & Beyond was first worked on by a PC Steam modder called Ryn aka WistfulHopes as a simple visual update. Not long though, streamer Maximilian ‘Maximilian Dood’ Christiansen noticed it and helped steer the project into its current form by rallying fellow modders and enthusiasts.

Speaking with Polygon, Maximillian estimated that he’s spent nearly $30,000 funding the project, which includes paying artists and programmers. The vision? To fix many of said issues players had with Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. “It’s just something that I personally want to exist,” he added.

The Marvel vs Capcom Infinite & Beyond PC Steam mod addresses these complaints with a visual overhaul that makes the game look better than ever. Most notably character models taken from the more well-received Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 RPG and striking cell-shaded cartoonish effect.

All the 36 rosters from both Marvel and Capcom now come with redesigned costumes and more vibrant color palettes. Including the iconic but sadly missing Blue Venom from the original Marvel vs Capcom.

But that’s not all as new moves and gameplay updates like 4-player tag team mode bring more excitement to the experience. The mod also introduces ‘never before heard’ exclusive tracks from notable creators such as Alex Moukala, Little V, and Vincent Moretto.

Series fans warmly welcome the announcement of its release. “This is such a perfect timing with the hype Marvel Rivals is generating,” wrote JPVersus in the launch trailer video. “It’s wild how much better the updated graphics look, really pop,” wrote UnidentifiedRoot on Reddit.

Nevertheless, this isn’t the only revival project that has been worked on for the popular crossover series. The Marvel vs Capcom 3 Ultimate community is also working hard to expand the game’s roster. So far, they have added 20 more Marvel and Capcom heroes and villains to the game, including Gambit, Carnage, Cyclops, and Captain Commando. Whether you’re an Infinite or MvC 3 fan, rest assured you are eating good this year.
