Those looking to unlock one of the new features in Path of Exile 2 will eventually have to find The King in the Mists. While you’ll likely encounter this foe as you progress through Act 1, it is a somewhat option boss you can tackle. However, it is important that you defeat him, as the rewards are worth it in the long run. If you want to take this enemy down quickly, we have a guide to help you defeat the one ruling over Freythorn.
The King in the Mists Boss Guide for Path of Exile 2
If you’re making your way to Ogham Village, you’ll eventually find Freythorn, which is accessible through the Hunting Grounds. While not necessary to progress through the game’s first act, taking this detour is ideal if you want to unlock Spirit. Since we’ll focus on the boss guide, we’ll leave our guide on how to unlock spirit here.
To unlock the encounter with The King in the Mists in Path of Exile 2, you must first progress through Freythorn’s quest, which will task you with cleansing the altars on the map. Once you cleanse three, the final one will appear and summon the boss.
Boss Moves
The King in the Mists has many challenging moves that you’ll only be able to identify from their audio cues and certain visual indicators. Below, we’ll list the ones we were able to see during our encounter:
Lonnsaigh: The boss will summon thorns in front of him after he screams, “Lonnsaigh.” Move to the sides or behind the boss to avoid the attack.
Grow: The King will cast an unblockable move, which you can identify by the red mark on the boss, and create an AoE attack with thorns. This can one-shot you, so run away from the boss when he says, “Grow.”
Leth-creag: Once the boss shouts “Leth-creag,” he will summon two totems that will damage the player until they are destroyed.

Traveler’s Grip/Slaogarn: The King in the Mists will cast a spell on the player that will stun them once the cast goes off. So far, we haven’t found a way to avoid this attack. So, when you get stunned, try to be as far away from the boss as possible.

Dark Effity/Keep Running: Once the boss says any of these two phrases, red pools will appear on the map that will drain your HP. Avoid them as you move across the arena.
Gate to Nothingness: Once the boss reaches roughly 25%, he will change to the second phase. In this phase, he’ll make some of the previous moves but will add this new one that will summon black spheres that will chase the player and explode on hit. You must run away from them while avoiding the other moves.

Strategy
Fighting The King in the Mists can be quite challenging, especially compared to previous bosses in Path of Exile 2. The thing about this encounter is that there are a lot of AoE attacks that will make the arena dangerous to traverse. Furthermore, each hit does a lot of damage, so if you don’t position yourself well, you can die in a few hits. Here’s the strategy we used:
If you’re a ranged class, kite the boss around the arena and stay away from the AoE moves. If you’re melee, stick to the sides of the King at all times to get a few hits in before running away.
Once the Traveler’s Grip spell starts casting, run as far away as possible from the boss. If possible, stay at the edge of the arena until you’re no longer stunned.
For the second phase, which is more difficult, try to bait the homing orbs toward the edge. If you’re melee, move in circles until they explode. Doing so will allow you to get a few hits in.

It might take a few tries, but once you get the hang of the audio and visual cues, it will be a breeze. Also, try to save all your flasks for the second phase, which is when things get hairy.
