The democratic rollercoaster has finally reached its highest point. Helldivers 2 shadow-dropped its biggest expansion yet, Omens of Tyranny. While this isn’t news to many now, the surprising thing is how it survived despite Sony trying to clip the game’s wings left and right. We all remember the mismanagement issues, the controversy behind the account debacle, and the major order that took place outside of the game where all players fixed the game’s score on Steam. Say what you want about it, but Helldivers 2 keeps proving that not even a corporate giant can beat managed democracy. With two new awards under its belt this year, it just shows that the fight still rages on.
Omens of Tyranny Expansion Is The Perfect Way to End the Game’s Rocky Year

Like many of you, I was one of the first to enlist in the fight for Super Earth. I’ve seen the game’s highs and lows. I’ve woken every morning to sip some libertea and throw myself into the endless battle. However, I’ve also been there in the game’s worst moments. When the PvE balance patches broke the game or during the PSN account controversy. It’s been a heck of a rollercoaster for sure, but it never stopped Arrowhead Game Studios. And you know what? Few studios can stand with their head high, get past these highly controversial moments, and still deliver top-notch content.
For that reason, the release of the Omens of Tyranny expansion for Helldivers 2 is a huge deal. It isn’t just a new warbond for players to get. It is the introduction of the long-awaited Illuminate, a new FRV, and the first time we take the fight to Super Earth’s street. If this isn’t epic, I don’t know what is. But in all seriousness, I’m glad Helldivers 2 stood its ground. No other game provides this amount of co-op mayhem, and with how Helldivers 2 rose from the ashes, its future is looking brighter every day. Plus, the fact that it won Best Ongoing Game and Best Multiplayer shows how impactful Helldivers 2 has been.
All Helldivers 2 Needs To Do Is Keep a Steady Course In 2025

While the Omens of Tyranny expansion is a tremendous win for Helldivers 2, we need not forget that there have been a few strange decisions along the way during the game’s life. Balance changes are still not quite welcomed by the community, and certain bugs (not to be confused with Terminids) still remain. Even if Helldivers 2 survived Sony’s mismanagement, that doesn’t mean the road is clear and free of bumps. Now more than ever, the ball is in the studio’s court.

Yet, I’m hopeful for what 2025 might bring to Helldivers 2. The addition of this new faction is the right way to close what could’ve been a perfect year. And despite the many low moments the game had, I believe there were even better ones for this co-op experience. Will it remain as one of the best next year? It’s uncertain, but I bet all my cryo-sleeping Helldivers that it will. With how saturated the market is, few games provide the chaotic fun Helldivers 2 brings, and as long as we get more of that, managed democracy will never die.
