Game Science CEO Posts a Rallying Speech Despite Black Myth Wukong Losing GOTY: ‘We Must Strive To Create Better Games’

After Black Myth: Wukong failed to get the Game of the Year title in TGA 2024, Game Science CEO Feng Ji posted a lengthy speech on the Chinese social media Weibo. Besides expressing his disappointment and questioning TGA’s decision process, the man also spoke of the tough challenges the company has to face when making the game. However, the overall tone of the post is pretty optimistic, with Feng Ji saying that he wouldn’t let this failure stop him.

Game Science CEO started his post by expressing his gratitude for receiving four nominations. He was especially happy about winning the Players’ Voice category. Despite getting those awards, the man admitted that he was still feeling a bit regretful. “I feel like I came all the way here for nothing!” Feng Ji wrote.

In the next paragraph, the man said he had noticed fans who also expressed dissatisfaction with Black Myth: Wukong not winning. Although Feng Ji doesn’t mention it in his post, Chinese players actually review bombed Baldur’s Gate 3 due to Sven Vincke’s pre-award speech. The man continued his post by saying he even wrote an acceptance speech two years ago.

Game Science CEO wrote that during the development of Black Myth: Wukong, many of his colleagues weren’t as optimistic as he was. They could only see the game’s flaws and doubt whether they could meet deadlines. Feng Ji said one of his roles was to assure everyone they were doing fine. “We’re doing great, and the game is improving,” the man wrote.

Feng Ji said that Black Myth: Wukong‘s success wasn’t a fluke. He believed this was the inevitable outcome of Chinese culture, talent, the gaming industry, and even gamers worldwide coming together. He claimed this wasn’t a gamble and merely followed “the tide of history.” Game Science CEO said that his company wouldn’t be the last, and more Chinese stories would be spread worldwide.

At the end of his post, Feng Ji stated that being able to play games was a luxury, and many people had no chance of playing AAA games. “Many are suffering from hardship and injustice. Precisely because of this, we must strive to create better games,” the man wrote, “Ones that bring truth, goodness, and beauty to more people.”
