Assassin’s Creed: Shadows Will Allow Players to ‘Naruto Run’ on Rooftops

There has been much controversy surrounding Assassin’s Creed: Shadows‘ Yasuke character, whose historical authenticity has caused quite a problem for Ubisoft. Thus, the other main character, Naoe, easily gets overshadowed. Now, however, Ubisoft has revealed more details about the female ninja and placed her in the spotlight this time, with much of the focus being on her abilities. Some of the abilities include being able to perform the iconic “Naruto Run” in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.

Ubisoft’s Jonathan Dumont revealed more details about Naoe in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. One of Dumont’s proudest assessments for Naoe was that she’s the fastest assassin they’ve ever made in the franchise’s history. Naoe would apparently satisfy players looking for the more traditional stealth approach for Assassin’s Creed games.

Dumont then hints that “We do have a run on top of buildings that has a little bit of a wink-wink to it” which Entertainment Weekly suggests as the famed “Naruto Run”. For those who aren’t anime fans, the “Naruto Run” is the act of running while leaning forward and keeping your arms static behind your back.

The idea behind the movement scheme is how it makes the runner more aerodynamic. Hence, the running method makes the runner faster, which is an important physical quality to have for ninjas, particularly for the ninjas in the anime, Naruto which popularized the “Naruto Run.”

The Big Difference Between Yasuke and Naoe

Naoe is thus, a fully-fledged pop culture ninja, being able to execute blindingly fast running speeds on rooftops. Meanwhile, for those who prefer the louder and messier aspect of Assassin’s Creed gameplay, there’s Yasuke with a focus on fair fighting with brawns.

To that end, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows will then heavily impose the differences between the two characters and their intended playstyles. Naoe will have trouble facing several melee characters while Yasuke will be clumsier or slower during stealth segments and parkour moments.

Based on Jonathan Dumont’s new information about the gameplay, it appears that Yasuke, the African-born warrior in Japan, might not be able to perform the “Naruto Run” in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, unlike Naoe.
