Genshin Impact Is Bringing the Big Guns for Natlan, But It’s Still Lacking Something: Male Characters

It’s no surprise for anybody that so many amazing waifus are constantly appearing on the Genshin Impact banners, but what amazes players is the incredible lack of male characters. There have been several incredible re-runs, like recently Neuvillette and Zhongli. However, paying closer attention, the community noticed that Kinich was the only 5-star male character in 2024. Many feel that the male representation is overshadowed by the significant number of female characters taking the lead in the game.

The general concern of the players is that there are not enough male characters. The discomfort may be due to two primary points: that many of us love to have husbandos and, more importantly, due to the limited representation of men in Teyvat. Also, one of the biggest complaints is that male characters sell equally as females in Genshin Impact. However, by HoYoverse banner revenue, it’s clear the waifus sell the most. It is also undeniable in social networks that there is a preference for female characters. For example, at the beginning of Natlan, many were excited about Kinich, but the majority still waited with much more fervor for the Pyro Archon.

Besides, we know that along with Mavuika, Citlali will come for phase 1 and, in phase 2, will arrive at the re-run of Arlecchino and Clorinde. Also, thanks to the Special program of 5.3, a lineup of who could be the following characters appeared. From seven silhouettes, it’s evident that Ifa will be one of the next male characters of Genshin Impact, although its rarity is unknown. From the same silhouettes, many expect Dahlia to debut as another of the next male characters; according to the leaks, he is a boy with a medium model.

This phenomenon is not unique to Genshin Impact, as the same thing happens in Zenless Zone Zero. Recently, ZZZ got Harumasa and Lighter as the new S-Rank male characters. However, this is only after the banners of Yanagi, Burnice, Caesar, Jane Doe, Qingyi, Zhu Yuan, and Ellen Joe. Not to mention that in Special Program 1.4, ZZZ showed a sneak peek of two new Agents, both girls, Astra Yao and Evelyn.

As for Honkai Star Rail, the playing field seems more balanced between girls and boys. Even though the little information from Chrysos Heirs shows even more waifus with two husbandos, four more characters are still missing from this “faction.” Of course, this is only assuming that they all become playable characters and that they don’t repeat the story of Duke Inferno and the Annihilation Gang, making them disappear off-camera.

I’m not complaining about more husbandos in HoYoverse games because I also enjoy collecting any ladies who become playable characters. Still, more eye candy for those of us who like male characters would be great. Ultimately, we can’t kid ourselves. All of us will be ready to pull for Mavuika and even try to get Shenhe after she breaks out from her ice prison. Still, I hope the playing field finds an equal level eventually.
