After AI Allegations, Catly Releases Gameplay Trailer on Steam

After Catly released its first trailer on The Game Award 2024 show, numerous AI allegations were immediately raisedagainst the game. SuperAuthenti even spoke with IGN and claimed that their game would feature no AI, NFTs, or blockchains. Many people remain skeptical of the company’s statement. After several days passed since that interview, Catly finally uploaded a gameplay trailer on Steam to strengthen their argument.

The gameplay trailer for Catly is around two minutes. It features basic gameplay, such as customization and exploration. The game seems to allow you to unlock various types of cats and dress them in unique accessories. There is also a short section where new items and decorations appear on the island, which may imply that you can edit the environment. You can also control a cat to explore various areas on the island.

Besides releasing a new trailer, SuperAuthenti has also edited the game’s description on Steam. Initially, the main description said, “A Cat Open World, with Beautiful Cats. Hyperrealism, Actions, Cuddle, Speed, Islands, Fashion, Dreams, Snow, Robots, Plants — all with and via Cats.” However, it has now been edited to be less of a word vomit.

An open-world adventure filled with surprises and joy, side by side with Cats! Build your dream island, meet various characters, and enjoy caring for your cats, dressing up, building, farming, racing, skiing, and much more! Explore freely and have endless fun with your furry companions!

The About section for Catly has also been changed. Initially, it featured various sentences filled with buzzwords and hyperrealistic pictures, but now this section finally explains the gameplay. It lists key features that you can expect from the game. Besides collecting cats, players will be able to interact with NPCs. It also features farming, where you can plant crops and fruit trees. You will also be able to grow your island and personalize it with unique furniture, houses, and gardens.

Based on this updated description, it seems Catly is somewhat similar to cozy games like Stardew Valley. Unfortunately, despite the new gameplay trailer, many fans are still suspicious of SuperAuthenti. A Redditor commented that the trailer didn’t show proper gameplay and seemed to be in-engine footage. Others criticized the performance and physics shown in the video.

“From their description, it sounds like they want to make cat-themed Second Life,” one Redditor wrote. Another was curious about the performance of the game since SuperAuthenti plans to release Catly on Nintendo Switch and Apple Watch. Several threads devolved into arguments about whether or not the use of AI in video games is acceptable.
