Ryan Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, are two of the most well-known stars in the US. The duo has starred in several movies and TV projects. Reynolds is known for his roles in romantic comedies as well as his superhero alter-ego, Deadpool. Meanwhile, Lively captivated fans in Gossip Girl before moving on to bigger projects like her most recent film, It Ends With Us. However, the spouses have had a bit of a bad year when it comes to their reputation. Unfortunately for the actress, she has taken the brunt of the bad publicity on that front.
Earlier this year, fans were calling for the cancelation of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds after rumors about their involvement with It Ends With Us and an alleged feud with Lively’s co-star and director, Justin Baldoni. Resurfaced clips of the actress being rude during an interview also enraged fans at the time.
Now, Ryan is causing another online stir after he opened up about his and Blake’s upbringing in comparison to how their children are growing up. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor called both he and Lively “working class,” which didn’t sit well with some fans.
“We try to give them as normal a life as possible. I try not to impose upon them the difference in their childhood to my childhood or my wife’s childhood,” Reynolds said. “We both grew up very working class, and I remember when they were very young, I used to say or think, like, ‘Oh God, I would never have had a gift like this when I was a kid,’ or, ‘I never would’ve had this luxury of getting takeout,’ or whatever.”
Ryan Reynolds Calls Blake Lively ‘Working Class’
Some fans pointed out that Blake Lively was far from working class in her younger years. Her entire family was involved in the entertainment business as she grew up in the posh Tarzana neighborhood of Los Angeles, per The Daily Mail.

“Incredibly wealthy actors love to declare themselves working class. They think it will make people find them less annoying,” one person commented.
“Famous people say this stuff so they’ll be seen as relatable to the everyday people who actually are working class. But it’s not working, sorry, Ryan,” another wrote.
“That is because he is out of touch with reality. To them millions seems like the middle class,” said a third person.
“They clearly don’t know the meaning of working class,” a fourth person commented.
Blake’s father, Ernie Lively, was both an actor and a director. Meanwhile, her mother, Elaine, was an actress and talent manager. Her siblings, Eric, Lori, Robyn, and Jason, also have ties to showbusiness. As for Blake, she made her first film debut in 1998 at the age of just 10 years old. She appeared in a film titled Sandman, which was directed by her father. Because of this, some have gone as far as to call the actress a nepo-baby.
While Reynolds was likely trying to convey the fact that his children have a very different childhood than both he and Lively did. However, because of the controversy that has surrounded the couple over the past year, some thought the comments to be a bit crass.
It remains to be seen how long Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds will continue to take heat from their fans. However, the pair have been mostly laying low over the past few months. Maybe 2025 will be a better year when it comes to their reputations.
